The 11th edition of the Challenge saw 27 teams of paddlers going head to head for the honour of hoisting the Stuart Wardell Memorial Trophy as the fastest Dragon Boaters in Wakefield!
Full results are shown under the results tab above, but congratulations must go to everyone who took part – it was a great day topped off by two great finals:-
5 teams competed in the Ladies Final (made up of teams with more than 50% ladies in the boat for each heat) which was won by Stuarts Big Kiss in a very fast time of 58.86secs with Dane Royd PTA in their first visit to this event 2nd and Team Bones 3rd. The Medicine Team from Pinderfields were 4th with Doves Dragons in 5th.
The main final was competed for by the 6 teams with the fastest aggregate time over 2 of the 3 heats during the day. Seeing 6 large Dragon Boats racing across Pugneys is a sight to behold and this year was no exception.
In one of the tightest finals we have ever had the winners by less than 1sec were CHAPPERS LEGENDS in a super time of 54.82secs, just pipping the PARADISE PADDLERS and TEAM GME. In 4th place after having paddled the ladies final was STUARTS BIG KISS followed by NEWTONS SOLICITORS and THE WAKEFIELD WHIRLWINDS.
