Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge
DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, AND THE GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS ON ALL SOCIAL GATHERINGS WE HAVE DECIDED TO POSTPONE THE 2020 ROTARY DRAGON BOAT CHALLENGE EVENT TO 2021.
THE NEXT EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY 10TH JULY 2021
TEAMS WHO HAD ALREADY ENTERED THE 2020 EVENT HAVE HAD THEIR ENTRY TRANSFERRED TO THE 2021 EVENT CONFIRMED AND THEIR ENTRY FEE FULLY PAID.
WE ARE ACCEPTING ENTRIES FOR THE NEXT EVENT (2021) AS NORMAL.
WE ANTICIPATE THAT WITH THE ADDITIONAL 1 YEAR GAP BETWEEN EVENTS, THAT THE 2021 EVENT MAY BE OVERSUBSCRIBED, AND THEREFORE ARE SUGGESTING TO ALL OF THE REGULAR ORGANISATIONS, CHARITIES AND COMPANIES WHO WOULD ENTER A TEAM, TO DO SO EARLY SO THAT THEY ARE GUARANTEED AN ENTRY.
FOR ANYONE WHO WISHES TO ENTER THE POSTPONED EVENT IN 2021 PLEASE USE THE ENTRY FORM ON THIS SITE AND SEND IT AND THE ENTRY FEE TO CHRIS NAYLOR AT THE ADDRESS ON THE ENTRY FORM.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AGAIN AT PUGNEYS IN 2021.
This will be the 12th anniversary of the Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge and as much as 2019 will be hard to beat, our programme for 2021 promises to be our best yet.
The dragon boat racing will be as exciting as ever - with several cups up for grabs from a revised, more competitive format. There will be plenty of entertainment, activities and attractions for a great family day out too. A fantastic festival atmosphere around the park is guaranteed, especially if the sun is shining! Everyone is encouraged to participate - seasoned paddlers to beginners alike.
To be held on the 10th July 2021 on Pugneys Country Park Lake in Wakefield, the Huddersfield and Wakefield Chantry Rotary clubs are ready to welcome teams from across Yorkshire to take part in this annual fundraiser which continues to go from strength to strength.
The racing is run by "Race The Dragon" who are one of the largest dragon boat event operators in the country. This means the Dragon Boat Challenge is not only incredibly well organised but safe and most of all lots of fun.
What does the event involve?
The Dragon Boat Challenge will consist of each team racing 3 times during the day. The final will be between the 6 teams with the best aggregate times, racing head to head to see who is crowned the winner and take the Stuart Wardell Memorial Trophy to keep for one year. There will also be a ladies final between the 4 fastest teams consisting of at least 50% ladies.
Teams are encouraged to dress as outlandishly as possible with a Best Dressed Trophy awarded on the day.
There is lots to see and do on the day and whether you are a team member or have come along to support a team or charity, you are going to have a great time.
If you would like to race but have no team, please contact us and we will try to help.
