Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge
Well done on volunteering to be a paddler in a team in the 9th Annual Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge. Your responsibility as a paddler is to have fun, have a great day out, but also to contribute to the funds raised to support the many local and National charities.Obviously each team tries to raise as much as they can for their nominated charity and the Rotary Charities this event supports. Your target is to generate at least £50 towards that aim. Your team captain will let you know whether it will be via Virgin Money Giving or by the traditional cash collection method. Whichever it is please remember there is no upper limit to what you can raise and for the team that raises the most money, an extra donation will be made to the teams nominated charity by the organising Rotary Clubs.
There are 2 ways of raising sponsorship monies:-
1. Online Sponsorship Please use our site @ Virgin Money Giving
Our preferred method is online giving, operated for us very successfully in previous years by Virgin Money Giving
Used properly you benefit by being able to keep an eye on the amount your team members are raising and if it is not up to your expectation, increase your fundraising to benefit your charity. It also removes from you the responsibility of collecting the money after the event and allows your friends, who were not able to contribute before the event, to contribute afterwards.
Detailed instructions on how to access and use the Virgin Money Giving website are below
2. Cash Sponsorship
We strongly recommend that money is collected at the time of asking to ensure it is paid.
Instructions for setting up a Virgin Money Giving page for your team:-
Now contact your team members and advise them that the team page is set up, also the TEAM NAME that you are racing under ie. ‘Drowning Ducks’ and your password if there is one. Your Team Name must be displayed on the page or we will not be able to allocate the money to you.
Each team will pre-select a Charity or Charities it wishes to support.
It is a condition of entry to this event that each team member raises a minimum of £50.00 personal sponsorship, with a Team target of £1000.00
Sponsorship money will be split 75/25 between your Charity of choice and Rotary Charities. All money raised by sponsorship will be given to Charities, and NONE will be used for administration of the event, or any other purpose.
ALL Sponsorship money raised by team members must be sent IN FULL, TO THE EVENT TREASURER and NOT direct to the chosen Charity. THIS IS A CONDITION OF ENTRY AND CANNOT BE VARIED. This will ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from the Gift Aid element of the Fund Raising.
On receipt of your sponsorship money, and the paper Sponsorship forms where used, The Event Treasurer will, within 48 hours, return to you a cheque for 75% of your total, made out to the Charity of your choice. It is then your responsibility to hand over that cheque to your Charity
Team Captains will be expected to advise approx value of anticipated Sponsorship for each boat at the time of Registration.
